Terms of Service

The Service provides a public platform through which eligible users may browse information about government officials and submit ratings and short comments.

The Service is provided for informational, educational, and public-discussion purposes. Ratings and comments reflect the opinions of individual users and do not represent verified statements of fact or the views of Rate My Politicians.

You must be at least 18 years old to create a profile or submit ratings or comments through the Service.

By creating a profile or submitting content, you represent that you are at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity to agree to these Terms.

Certain features require you to sign in and create a profile. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for activity that occurs through your account.

You agree to provide accurate profile information and to avoid creating accounts through impersonation, fraud, automated systems, or other unauthorized means.

You may delete individual ratings through your profile or the applicable politician page. You may also request permanent deletion of your account and associated data through your profile settings.

Ratings, comments, notes, and other material submitted through the Service are referred to as “User Content.” You remain responsible for the User Content you submit.

You may express honest opinions, including strong criticism, provided that your content complies with these Terms and applicable law.

By submitting User Content, you grant Rate My Politicians a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute that content as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, moderate, and improve the Service.

This license ends when your User Content is deleted, except to the extent that retention is required for security, legal compliance, backup restoration, fraud prevention, or records of prior enforcement actions.

You may not use the Service to:

• Submit unlawful, fraudulent, knowingly false, or deliberately misleading content.
• Threaten, harass, stalk, intimidate, or encourage violence against another person.
• Publish another person’s private or sensitive personal information without authorization.
• Impersonate another person, public official, organization, or Rate My Politicians representative.
• Submit spam, advertisements, repetitive content, automated ratings, or manipulated ratings.
• Attempt to bypass geographic, account, age, security, or moderation restrictions.
• Access, scrape, overload, disrupt, reverse engineer, or interfere with the Service without authorization.
• Use the Service in a manner that violates applicable law or infringes another person’s rights.

We may review, restrict, hide, remove, or preserve User Content when we reasonably believe it violates these Terms, creates a safety or security risk, is unlawful, is fraudulent or manipulated, or interferes with operation of the Service.

We may warn users, limit account features, suspend accounts, or terminate access when necessary to enforce these Terms or protect users and the Service.

We are not obligated to monitor every submission and do not guarantee that all objectionable content will be identified or removed immediately.

Information about government officials may be obtained from public records, government sources, third-party data sources, or automated synchronization systems.

Although we attempt to maintain accurate and current information, we do not guarantee that names, titles, offices, party affiliations, districts, terms, or other information are complete, accurate, or current at all times.

Rate My Politicians is an independent service and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, or operated by the United States government, any state or local government, any court, any political party, or any public official displayed on the Service.

The Service’s software, design, branding, layout, and original content are owned by or licensed to Rate My Politicians and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

These Terms do not grant you ownership of the Service or permission to copy, sell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service except as expressly authorized in writing.

The Service may rely on or link to third-party websites, authentication providers, hosting platforms, databases, or public data sources.

We do not control and are not responsible for third-party services, their availability, their content, or their privacy and security practices.

Content available through the Service does not constitute legal, financial, election, political, investment, or other professional advice.

You are responsible for evaluating information and making your own decisions. Use of the Service is at your own risk.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, accurate, complete, or continuously available.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Rate My Politicians and its owners, operators, contractors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from or related to your access to or use of the Service.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

We may change, suspend, restrict, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. Features, eligibility requirements, available officials, rating rules, and data sources may change as the Service develops.

We may update these Terms periodically. When we make changes, we will revise the “Last updated” date displayed at the top of this page.

Your continued use of the Service after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force to the extent permitted by law.
